Dr Martin Rankin was a GP partner in Devon before specialising in out of hours GP work for around a decade. He moved to the Isle of Man to work at MEDS in 2018 and was appointed as the clinical lead of Ballasalla Group Practice when it was taken over by Manx Care.in 2023
Our Nursing Team
The Practice employs a Practice Nurse prescriber and two HCA’s, appointments can be made by phone. When booking your appointment the reception staff will usually ask you what your appointment is for to enable them to manage the appointment book most efficiently.
The nursing team offer a wide range of health care services including chronic disease monitoring and treatment (Asthma, COPD, Diabetes, high blood pressure etc.), stitch removals, dressing changes. childhood vaccinations, ear syringing, cervical smear tests, contraception advice, and New Patient medical checks.

Reception and Secretarial Staff
We have dedicated team of administrative staff with many years of experience. They offer excellent support for the clinical staff and have a good working knowledge of the patient base and health agencies in the Island.
The Practice Staff have the right to do their jobs without fear of verbal or physical abuse of any kind. This includes rudeness or unpleasant behaviour. If a patient is violent to any member of the Practice Team or exhibits unacceptable behaviour they may be asked to register with another Practice.
Our Attached Team
Health Visitor
The Doctors work closely with the Health Visitor who provides advice and support to families with small children, the elderly and the disabled. She can be contacted from 9.30 am to 10.30 am Monday to Friday by telephoning 686941 but a message can be left on the answerphone when she is not in the office and your call will be returned at her earliest opportunity.
District Nurse
The District Nurse provides general nursing care in the community. A District Nurse is attached to the Practice and can be contacted via the surgery during normal office hours.
Midwife
The Midwife usually runs a clinic every other week at the Practice on a Thursday afternoon. Appointments can be made via the Reception staff.
